Our Presenters

Cheryl Dunn is a full professor and the Associate Director of the School of Accounting. Cheryl has worked at Grand Valley State University for a total of 18 years, first from 1993-1996 and then from 2005 to present. In between, she was at Florida State University. She has also held short-term visiting positions with Michigan State University, The University of Notre Dame, and Rice University.

Cheryl has written many articles for scholarly journals and authors a textbook called REA Accounting Systems and Analytics. Cheryl has taught graduate and undergraduate accounting information systems courses as well as graduate accounting theory and undergraduate principles of financial and managerial accounting. Cheryl’s primary research interests are in business ontologies, conceptual modeling, enterprise system design. And corporate financial reporting.

Cheryl earned her BA in Accounting, MBA, and PhD in Accounting, all at Michigan State University.

The GVSU Accounting Alumni Chapter sponsors a number of activities and programs centered on the group’s mission of “Building Community and Opportunity among Accounting Alumni, Students, and Faculty”.

Events and programs include: 

The accounting mentor program which pairs GVSU accounting students with mentors. 

The annual golf outing which raises funds for accounting scholarships and the School of Accounting development fund. 

Continuing Professional Education opportunities

Periodic happy hour events and the annual reunion. 

Opportunities to volunteer in the classroom by participating in juried presentations or speaking on various topics.    

Students are encouraged to become a part of the Accounting Alumni Chapter upon graduation.  Not only is this a great way to stay in touch with friends you’ve made in school and network with other professionals, it is also a wonderful way to give back to the School of Accounting.
