Nevada State CPE Requirements for CPAs

It’s an understatement to say that Nevada is a unique state. While much of the state is rural and desolate, deep in the Mojave Desert lies Las Vegas, the entertainment capital of the world where more than 42 million tourists visited in 2015. That makes the City one of the top travel destinations in the world. With gambling and entertainment comes money to be accounted for and lots of it. Whether you are working within the entertainment industry or part of the audit and regulatory side, there is a lot of demand for CPA and financial services to keep everything in check in the sin city. What doesn’t get much of the lights and glamor but is extremely important is the continuing education requirements for practicing CPAs in Nevada. Below we will discuss the State CPE requirements and policies.

General Requirements
The Nevada State Board of Accountancy requires CPAs to complete 80 hours of continuing education credits every two years with a minimum of 20 hours per year. The reporting period is from January 1st to December 31st each year.

The Nevada State Board allows CPAs to obtain CPE through many different avenues including instruction and university/college credits with no restrictions on the way you receive your credits.

Subject Requirements
The Nevada Board of Accountancy requires CPAs to complete 4 hours of ethics related CPE over each two year reporting period. The Board also requires those who have participated in audit, attestation, review, or full disclosure compilation procedures within the prior 12 months to complete a minimum of 8 hours of continuing education credits in the “Accounting and Auditing” subject field.

License Renewal Date
The deadline to submit paper work to renew a license is December 31st, annually. As part of the renewal process, CPAs must document and attest to all of the CPE hours completed in the prior reporting period.

Other Board Policies
The board gives CPAs discretion as to what providers they use for CPE credits including the mandatory ethics training. They do provide a brief list of ethics courses for consideration. For more information please see: http://www.nvaccountancy.com/education.fx
