How To Turn The OBBBA Into New Clients

This special guest post, contributed by Christian Jones, CEO of TaxProMarketer, highlights how the new OBBBA creates "One Big, Beautiful Opportunity to Unlock the Unexpected Power of an Overlooked Marketing Strategy."

Key Takeaways

  • The passage of the big, beautiful bill creates a prime opportunity to answer questions that taxpayers have about how the changes will impact them.
  • Local tax practices are more likely to be trusted for personalized advice than major news networks.
  • Our clients’ 2025 email open rates indicate that over half of taxpayers and business owners are opening and reading emails covering important topics like this.
  • Sending weekly emails to your list nurtures and builds relationships with clients, potential clients, and friends of clients, which is exactly what you want if you’re wondering how to get more tax clients right now.

Now that all 887 big, beautiful pages of new tax law are officially your responsibility to follow, I have a feeling I know what the rest of your summer will look like.

I hope you rested up well after the April tax deadline.

But now that vacation is over, here’s a question that you need to consider:

Do you think the taxpayers in your local area will be proactively educating themselves about what this bill means for them?

That’s a big, fat NO. No, they will not be reading 887 pages of new tax policy.

But they are seeing headlines and listening to social media influencers who are “educating” them about all the changes in a way that might not actually be accurate or helpful.

Wouldn’t it be helpful if you, the local tax and accounting office down the street, could break it down for them in a way that’s digestible and relevant?

Yes, of course it would. But will you?

That’s the next important question to answer.

And here’s where email marketing comes in to save the day — for you and your clients.

I’ve been banging the drum about the power of email marketing for years now, and moments like these make it all the more relevant. This is how to get more tax clients outside of tax season and accounting work outside of year-end.

People in your neighborhood are now actively looking for advice about how to adjust their tax strategy, and they’re more likely to trust you than CNN or Fox.

If you’re skeptical that people don’t read email anymore, then listen to the data:

1) Neil Patel recently reported that 96% of businesses say their investment in email marketing is profitable.

2) Our clients who have been sending weekly emails about topics like the big, beautiful bill and other tax and financial topics are getting an average of 57 percent open rates.

For context, that’s a huge, not-normal open rate.

So if your list is 500 strong, that means that 285 people are opening those emails and reading them. It also means…

  • You’re front and center for 285 people on a weekly basis
  • 285 people know you can do more than tax prep
  • You’ve got 285 people whose confidence in your ability increases with every email

Could your practice use 285 more people who trust your advice, refer you to their friends, and look to you first for tax and accounting services?

By sending weekly emails like these, you’re nurturing and building relationships with clients, potential clients, and friends of clients… which is all the more relevant if you’re wondering how to get more tax clients right now.

It just works.

And it’s not hard to do when you have a reliable source of ongoing (and very readable) content creation for these emails from a team who is diligently following good email sending practices so that your emails actually get delivered to those 285 people.

But if you’re not doing this, you’re missing opportunities every single week.

Send emails. Do it yourself, or hire an experienced agency to do it for you (effectively).

I’m for you as a tax and accounting business owner, whether you use our services or not. This is one of the best pieces of marketing advice I can give you that pays off both in the short term and the long term.

Make the most of these opportunities our government hands you.

And all the everyday life moments in between.
